Our Services
At Alabama Lifestyle Medicine, we believe that true health is more than the absence of disease, it is also a state of complete physical, social, and mental well-being. Diseases do not come from a deficiency of pharmaceuticals. To enable our patients to live their healthiest lives, and to make their bodies a hostile terrain for disease, we primarily use all the evidence-based lifestyle factors at our disposal and only secondarily resort to medications.

What Is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle medicine involves the prevention, treatment, and reversal of disease by utilizing six pillars, which are: a whole, plant-based diet, restorative sleep, regular physical activity, positive social connections, stress management, and avoidance of risky substances.

Whole plant-based diet
Demonstrated to prevent, treat and reverse multiple health conditions, and has a multitude of benefits. Food truly is our medicine!

Positive Social Connections
Encourages patients to foster healthy relationships for improved physical, emotional, and psychological health.

Restorative Sleep
Use improved sleep to maximize the immune system and improve a variety of health issues.

Stress Management
Critical to the outcome of almost every health condition, how we manage stress plays an essential role in our state of health.

Regular physical activity
This has such a great impact on our physical and mental health and is an essential part of any health regimen.

Avoidance of Risky Substances
Helping patients to limit/avoid risky substances in pursuit of optimal health.

Meet Dr. Gudel
Dr. Gudel is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. Receiving a B.S. in Community Health from Texas A&M University, she then graduated from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. She completed a traditional Osteopathic internship in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by an internal medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Upon completion of residency, she joined the US Air Force, was deployed to Afghanistan three times, and earned her wings by becoming a flight surgeon along the way.
Seven years later, a cancer diagnosis caused a change in Dr. Gudel’s career trajectory, leading to board certification in Lifestyle Medicine and the start of Birmingham’s first American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM)-type Lifestyle Medicine practice. She is excited to practice true health care as opposed to the reactive care of traditional medicine.
By addressing the root causes of disease, which are so often lifestyle-related, she has successfully treated many medical conditions, enabling patients to dedicate less of their time and finances toward the health care that is so often “sick care.”
